Thrustmaster wireless NW for Wii review!
Many of you guys may have heard of a controller called the Thrustmaster NW for Wii. Well I just got it in the mail and it is awesome, might I say. For those of you who cannot afford, or cannot find for that matter, a wavebird controller- this controller is your best alternative for a wireless controller. I must warn those who have big hands though, you might not like this controller. This controller is pretty small, a little smaller than that of the Nintendo gamecube controller. It takes 3 AAA batteries, and has a large receiver to plug into your Wii. Might I mention also that this controller does work with Wii games( Brawl), Gamecube games, and VC titles.
The controller has the build of the classic controller setup, it is pretty lightweight. You have your left analog stick, which has no grooves to force you into any one of the eight directions you usually have in regular controllers. The C-stick, or the right analog stick is the same way. The buttons, X,Y,A, and B are situated just like the classic controller, sadly though for those wanting to play brawl with this, be prepared for a little change. The buttons are all the same size(small like the classic controller), so it might take some getting used to. The D-pad has a nice feel to it and sits above the left analog stick. The shoulder buttons, you have a left and right, and a Z-left and a Z-right, which is essentially the Z button. in the middle of the controller is you slew of awesome controller buttons!
You have your regular start button on your right and a slow button on the left, which makes your game automatically press start continuously, so that you can execute moves in slow-mo- but I haven't found any game to effectively use this option. in the middle is your SUPER FREAKIN' Awesome button- the map button. What this button does is allow you to change the buttons and any analog direction to any other button. You can completely re-map the whole controller. This will work well for those with Brawl. underneath that is the turbo button, which speaks for itself, it allows you to hold down one button, and the game will repeat that action without you having to keep pressing that button( remember Link's A-combo? heh heh!)
Underneath that button is your connect button which basically connects the controller to the receiver in case it doesn't connect automatically. Now on the very bottom of the controller is an on/off switch and a rumble on/off switch. The power switch obviously turns the controller off and the rumble switch is there in case you want to save batteries, yet the rumble is a bit less than that of the gamecube controller, but still its better than the wavebird in my honest opinion. Whats also cool about the controller is that it has nice grips on the side and the analog rubber feels nice.
Woo, that was a long write! Now the gripes about the controller. First of all is all the buttons are quite close together, theres hardly any space. So when you playing Brawl, you could accidentally hit the slow button, and wonder, wtf did i do? And then you figure it out and get pissed off. the same thing can happen with the start button and the turbo button. If you find you can't charge an attack on Brawl, chances are you have turbo set to that button. The other gripe, well its only a small one, but it takes a little getting used to, is that the grooves are gone in the controller-making it a little hard to control my jumps in Brawl, but I just need to get used to the controller. Another gripe-again only small- is that your controller shuts off after 5 minutes, so any button re-mapping you might have done disappears too, so you have to re-re-map it again! The last thing about the controller is the freakishly large receiver that comes with your controller. It's not that big of a deal, but i think they could have changed the design a little bit. Heck it even comes with velcro tape to stick it to your Wii.
All in all a good controller. The analog feels nice and the buttons are nice, and the shoulder buttons take a little getting used to, but I think you guys can handle it. This controller will work very well with Brawl, and at a cheap price of $20 at places like Dell and Newegg.com, you can't pass it up! I give this controller a rating of 9.5/10
